Is it time to spring clean your finances?
I know it’s February, but a friend asked me the other day if I’d made any New Year’s resolutions and, perhaps, more importantly if I’d stuck to them. I’m not a big fan to be honest. I’d rather (try!) and make sure I’m ready and organised all year round for whatever I may want to achieve. And there’s nothing that attitude applies more to than finances and financial planning.
Don’t put your finances off
My friend’s question got me thinking. February is actually a great month for reviewing, reassessing or even starting your financial planning. It’s the perfect time to spring clean your finances for the months and years ahead and the sooner you begin, the better.
I can hear an audible sigh from lots of you reading that last sentence! Comments such as: “but financial planning is boring”, “I haven’t got a clue when it comes to financial stuff”, “I don’t have the time right now” or, my personal favourite, “I’ve got loads more interesting things to do with my day!” are all very common responses. The good news is, we can do all of your financial planning for you and make it completely painless and maybe even interesting! So, there’s no reason to put your finances off for another day, your future self really will thank you for it.
You’re not alone
Going back to my friend who enquired about resolutions. He’s just one of many who, when they find out I work with a group of award-winning independent financial advisors, casually try to get a (free!) steer on what they should and shouldn’t be doing with their pension, savings or investments. If you’re unsure of your finances I can assure you that you are not alone.
I’m afraid to say that lots of people are missing opportunities for their finances to achieve their goals. For example, not considering retirement and how they’ll manage financially until it’s too late. It’s so easy to put it off because you’re just not interested, or you’re frightened of the unknown. You’re worried about how much recruiting the services of a professional independent financial advisor might cost. Or you’re scared of what they might tell you if you do.
